    Description

    Approx. Dimensions: 4.5" x 4.5" high
This acrobatic cat is typical in style for Margarito Melchor Fuentes, who is famous for his cat carvings. The cat can be displayed either balancing on its 2 front legs or stretched out on all 4 legs. Margarito is a well-known Mexican artisan, whose work graces the cover of one of the best-known books covering Oaxacan woodcarvings, "Oaxacan Woodcarving, The Magic in the Trees", by Shepard Barbash. Great gift for a cat-loving yoga people, collectors of these alebrijes (Oaxacan Woodcarvings) or collectors of Mexican folk art.
Carved (& signed) by Margarito Melchor Fuentes, in San Martin Tilcajete, Oaxaca Mexico
The tail is removable, but I suggest gluing it in place (white glue does the trick well) upon arrival of its eventual home.
If you've stumbled across this listing and don't know what an "alebrije" is... the term "alebrije" has evolved to be synonymous with "Oaxacan Wood Carving".
These carvings are made in small workshops in several towns on the outskirts of Oaxaca, Mexico. They are often prized by collectors of Mexican Folk Art.
