Vintage Mexican Folk Art Pottery Charger Plate Presentation ComalArtes Folklorico presents a vintage Mexican ceramic pottery charger, plate or comal.
The comal was an ancient way of making tortillas dating back to the Aztecs.
The comal is still used today.
This extremely large comal was hand-painted and made for presentation purposes.
There is a hook on the top that allows for hanging.
The charger was made in the city of Cuautla in the Mexican state of Morelos.
The artwork appears to be celebrating the work of women passing a law that creates boards for moral, civic and material improvement.
It has the dates 1979 and 1987.
The central artwork is hand-painted and signed by the artist in the lower right of the artwork (see photograph).
The featured woman is wearing traditional Morelos dress and jewelry.
The comal is in excellent vintage condition with no breaks, cracks or chips (see photographs).
The piece is extremely large measuring 20-inches in diameter and 2-inches in depth.
A rare find for anyone that collects vintage, old or antique Mexican pottery, ceramics or folk art.
