FANTASTIC LONG TAILED LIZARD IGUANA GECKO SALAMANDER OAXACA WOOD CARVING
BY THE HIGHLY TALENTED WOOD CARVER HILARIO BLAS
WONDERFUL WORK IN AN ECONOMICAL PIECE! WHIMSICAL AND FUN!
One of our favorite trips on our travels in Oaxaca is to the village of San Pedro Cajonos! Situated high in the mountains three hours from Oaxaca City, this is one of the most idyllic settings that one may ever find! Perched at the top of the mountains, with sweeping views of the surrounding canyons and distant pueblos, San Pedro Cajonos kisses the clouds and shines in its art forms. One of the most famous of San Pedro Cajonos artists, is the Blas Family of wood carvers. Their style is so unique, and can be identified readily upon sight. Bright colors, and fine painting are their hallmarks. I absolutely love the Blas Family wood carvings!
Hilario's long tailed lizard wood carvings are so cool! Full of whimsy and fun, and bright and deep colors in the painting. For such an economical piece, these lizards are packed with a difficult to achieve sense of motion, with the positioning of the feet, the head turned to the side, and the long curved tail! I love these. These are carved using a harder wood than the traditional Copal wood, which makes it even more difficult to execute. Nicely painted and a great size, it will make an affordable addition to your collection. The piece is signed by the artist, and there are no removable parts.
